I noticed this in the mcdonalds parking lot, so I poked around in it with a stick to try to clear the drainage path.
I came to the conclusion that it has no outlet at all, it’s a permanent stagnant pond. It stinks pretty bad.
Contact your local mosquito control agency and report it, I’m sure they’ll be impressed and might even get the ball rolling towards making McDonalds do something to resolve the issue.
In the meantime, post a professional looking printed and laminated sign that says something like “MOSQUITO POND - Please protect the local mosquito population - Thanks, McSquitoes”
I think I will do all of this
Awesome, let us know how it goes in the long run, and make sure to post a photo of whatever sign you come up with… 👍

Y’all have mosquito control agencies?!
Sure do! They even have an open house every year and the kids get to sit in their helicopter.
Edit:

Why do they need a helicopter? More importantly, do they call it “The Skeeter Beater?”
It’s to disrupt the mating cycle. When you fly around in The Skeeter Beater it sets an unobtainable standard for male mosquitos and the females lose interest.
Genuinely don’t know if you’re kidding or not. Movie idea: aliens do this to humanity.
Plot twist: they already create unobtainable standards with celebrities.
Ryan Gosling is actually a fish alien
Here’s a local agency https://mmcd.org/
The drop pellets into ponds, marshes, etc that disrupts the mating cycle. They may also release sterile males.
Here in south Mississippi, absolutely!
We could certainly use one here in Coastal Carolina, but we’re just left to fend for ourselves…
What part? We have that here around Sacramento.
Edit- I’m an idiot… I could’ve sworn you said coastal California.
I guess trying to control mosquitos is officially woke.
I thought they said coastal California. It said Carolina. My bad.
Also, controlling mosquitoes is def woke. They are the deadliest animal on the planet. Despite ICE thinking it would be anyone slightly off-white.
Dry ice is definitely white…

This is how our skeeter control works.
It’s common in the tropics where mosquitoes can carry deadly viruses
We have them in Minnesota too.
Oof, stay warm up there, and stay safe…
Fuck ICE, except the kind of ice that freezes the mosquitoes…
I live in Texas, so any amount of water is an instant mosquito source. I legit made a “mosquito pond” for the little bastards to lay their eggs, which provides an excellent food source for the cheap ass minnows i stock the pond with …

Sounds like an average McDonalds to me.
Corporate decided stagnant ponds were cheaper than Play Areas.
Drink it you coward
Just typical laziness. Sees problem. Doesn’t solve problem. Complains about problem.
McDonald’s has straws.
Put a # TODO comment on it
This is the way. Make sure that you don’t attempt to fix it, or even attempt to make it easier to fix, just add the #TODO.
Weird. Is that a culvert at the top of the image? It makes sense that runoff from the parking lot would terminate in a drainage ditch, but why it would have sidewalls like that is beyond me. Maybe it was a misunderstanding from the construction crew.
Looks to me like this is a “just get it off the parking lot, we don’t care what happens to it after that” drain.
I bet the pool area was only supposed to have a backstop wall the prevent erosion of the ditch, but the designer didn’t feel like it was necessary to detail it. Seems easy enough to fix with a concrete saw and a sledgehammer though.
Yes it is in a drainage ditch
Nah that’s actually a half pipe for skater gnomes.
The d is silent
Where’s a lawn chair when you need it?
You spelled toilet seat wrong.
That is not a drain, it is technically now a sump.
Why doesn’t it just
🤷♂️
You’d have to dig down to know
This is why I always carry liquid hand soap
